Guys, I believe you all are doing well, eating healthy and enjoying your lives. It has been a long time since I could not write to you guys. But, do not worry, I will try to be more consistent now onward. In February this year, we had a family trip to Ghoom. We spent two nights there and enjoyed the beauty of the mighty Himalayas.

Today, I am here to talk about the best places to visit in Ghoom. Before starting this, let me tell you a bit about Ghoom. This place comes under Darjeeling district of the Indian state of West Bengal. The nearest airport from Ghoom is Bagdogra Airport, and New Jalpaiguri Railway Station is the nearest railway station. You can book a car from both places for Ghoom. There is government bus service available too from Siliguri Junction.

1. Ghoom Biodiversity Conservation Park

Established in 1878, this park is a gem for nature lovers. This is where you can enjoy Himalayan flora and in times Himalayan fauna. It is a large area of 40 acres which is preserving a diverse collection of 1800 botanical species from different regions of the Himalayas.

Ghoom Biodiversity Conservation Park offers scenic trails in the green. Strolling through the park admiring the diverse plant collection is indeed enjoyable. This is a place where you can find a peaceful retreat.

Ghoom Biodiversity Conservation Park is located on the Sukhia Pokhri Road in Ghoom.

How to Reach Ghoom Biodiversity Park
One can book a car from the Ghoom railway station area for Ghoom Biodiversity Conservation Park. It takes 15 minutes to reach there by car.

2. Guru Sakya Monastery

A beautiful and spiritual place to visit in Ghoom. Guru Sakya Monastery is located 8 kilometers from Darjeeling in Ghoom. This is not just a monastery, but also a place where lamas do stay. It is a 3-storey building and the prayer hall is on the 1st floor. Crossing this heavy iron bridge and those hilly paths, when you enter the prayer hall, you will feel a different spiritual connection.


The walls of the prayer hall are talking about the different stages of the life of Lord Buddha through those mesmerizing thangka paintings. It has different kinds of spiritual items and 3 large statues. Those statues are actually Buddha Sakyamuni, Avalokitesvara, and at the center Guru Padmasambhava.


This Monastery was established in 1915, but it was inaugurated in 1960 by His Holiness the Sakya Trizin. This monastery is the very fast monastery His Holiness The Sakya Trizin founded after his exile from his country Tibet after communist invention.

Guru Sakya Monastery is situated in Ghoom, near Ghoom Railway Station.

How to Reach Guru Sakya Monastery ?
From Ghoom railway station you can walk till the monastery, if you are not comfortable walking you can book cab from the Ghoom Railway Station area.
3. Batasia Loop

This place is to lower the gradient of Darjeeling Himalayan Range. It is a spiral railway track surrounded by flowers, hills, and green. It is also a place dedicated to Gorkha shoulders who had given their lives for the country after the Independence of India.

Batasia Loop provides a spectacular view of Darjeeling city. This place does get heavy winds every day and that is a crazy experience to have.

Batasia Loop is in Darjeeling, which is close to Ghoom. On the way to Darjeeling from Ghoom, one can get to this spot.

How to Reach Batasia Loop ?
You can access Batasia Loop via road either from Darjeeling or from Ghoom. You can get even government buses or can book a car for the same.
4. Ghoom Monastery

Dunggon Samten Choeling Monastery, famous as Ghoom Monastery. On the lap of the Himalayan range, this monastery has been there in various occurrences and changes in cultural norms. Established in 1875, this monastery is still carrying the cultural heritage of the Himalayas and Buddhism.

Inside the monastery, one can experience stunning thangkas paintings and an amazing colossal 15 ft statue of Maitreya Buddha.

This monastery is located 7 kilometers from Darjeeling town. But, it is very close to Ghoom Railway station. From Ghoom railway station to Darjeeling, this monastery will come onto your left.
How to Reach Ghoom Monastery?
1st of all, this monastery name is Dunggon Samten Choeling Monastery. But, you have to tell the locals or your driver about the Ghoom Monastery. From Darjeeling, you will need a car to come here and from Ghoom railway station, you can walk to the monastery. Yes, if you are not someone who likes walking, you can book a car from the Ghoom railway station too.
