A Road Trip to Ajodhya Hills

West Bengal is a beautiful state. It has the beauty of the Himalayas and the waves of Bay of Bengal. But, how many people know about its Eastern Ghats?

Ayodhya Hills

Just a few days back, I traveled the Ajodhya hills in the Purulia district of West Bengal. It was a one day trip by road from Kolkata.

Ayodhya Hills

Ajodhya Hills is located 350 km from Kolkata, which takes almost 7 to 8 hours to reach. It is actually a part of Dalma hills and an extended part of Eastern Ghats.

We started our journey at night on Saturday by 10:00 pm from Kolkata and reached at Baghmundi by 5:00 am on Sunday morning.

A journey at night was drowsy in the car. We took some dry fruits and yes water bottles. The weather was not that hot due to little rain. But, during summer the local temperature can rise up to 45° C.

I suggest November to February would be the best time to visit the Ajodhya hills. At this particular time, the weather is pleasant and there is less risk of accidents too.

Ayodhya Hills

We had no plan to stay there for a night as we had to return back to Kolkata by Monday. But, travelers who have the intention to stay near Ajodhya hills, for them Bharat Sevashram Sangha could be the right place to stay as other places are not that great. One thing you have to keep in mind that you can not eat non-veg foods at Bharat Sevashram Sangha.

Ayodhya Hills

That early morning in Baghmundi was critical for us to find a place for breakfast but we managed a roadside tea stall, where the kind lady made some roties for us in return of very little money.

By 6:00 am we started towards Ajodhya hills. It’s just 10 to 15 minutes by car through the red soil and green trees.

For your information, the Ajodhya hills is a nice place for new trekkers. Due to our little time, we were not planned for trekking. But, yes you can do this there.

Ayodhya Hills

Ajodhya hills have some peaks and Gorgaburu (855 m)and Mayuri are two of them. The entire area covered by the red or yellow soil, small and big plants or trees and cactus. Before visiting Ajodhya, I got to know that we can meet wild animals there. But, we met some snakes only.

The best part of this place is Turga Dam and the lake. You can spend your entire day by the lake and can enjoy the romantic breeze.

There is a waterfall too near that dam, which is formed by the River Bamni.

We spent the entire day at Ajodhya hills and by 4:30 pm returned back to Baghmundi. At Banghmundi we spent some time and had food and then, by 6:30 pm we started towards Kolkata.

The Ajodhya hills is a place where you can forget your burdens, pains, and bad memories. It is a place where you can refresh yourself.
