Monsoon in Sevoke
Verdant forest and charming hills always make people enthral everyday in Sevoke. This is a place of green on the mother earth.
Sevoke is 23km from Siliguri town (West Bengal). This place is known for the Coronation Bridge and Teesta river. With very less population, Sevoke is still holding its grandeur.
In every season, this place changes its avatar and during monsoon it has its best avatar. Clouds romp around the hills and give them an extra glamour. Forest gets more greener with the lovey-dovey breeze and drizzle. Above all, it becomes a place close to haven, made by God.
Journey to Sevoke:
To go to Sevoke you can book a car from Siliguri or you can go by bus. You have to go to P.C. Mittal bus terminus in Sevoke road, Siliguri and from there you will get buses for Sevoke. But, I will suggest you to go by car as the entire route is full green and beautiful.
After reaching in Sevoke, you can take a walk towards the Coronation Bridge. I left my car near the Sevoke Police Station and walked to Coronation Bridge. Walking through that hilly road was amazing. You can enjoy the nature more closely. During monsoon, you will get many waterfalls throughout the road in Sevoke.
This is a famous bridge, local people call this bridge as Baghpool. It was built by Britishers and its foundation stone was laid by John Anderson (then Governor of Bengal) in 1937. The name Coronation had been given to memorize the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon as the King and Queen of the United Kingdom.
Connecting two districts ( Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling), this bridge creates the most stunning view of Sevoke.
Various birds and monkey are the most common in this area. But, if you take a trip to Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary, you can meet many wild animals including tigers, elephants and deer.
The Coronation Bridge spans across the Teesta River. This laurel green river is flowing with its medium speed. No doubt, it is an additional attraction of Sevoke.
Sevokeshwari Kali Mandir (temple):
There is a temple for Godess Kali on the way to Coronation Bridge, which is known as Sevoke Kali Mandir or Sevokeshwari Kali Mandir. A lot of devotees visit this temple everyday with their great devotion to God.
During my three years in Bengaluru, I have marked that people are not aware about such places in West Bengal. Sevoke is an amazing place to visit in northern West Bengal and indeed a true Himalayan beauty.
